Synopsis: The legendary Puss in Boots sets off on an adventure with his friends Kitty Softpaws and Humpty Dumpty to save his town. Complicating matters along the way are Jack and Jill, two outlaws who will do anything to make Puss and his band fail.

• Unlike the Shrek films, which were in production for only 3 years (except for the first which was in production for 4½-5 years), this film was in production for 7½ years. This film entered development in 2004 just after the release of Shrek 2 (2004).
• It was initially planned for release in 2008 as a direct-to-video spin-off, then titled Puss in Boots: The Story of an Ogre Killer. By October 2006, the film was re-slated as a theatrical release due to market conditions and DreamWorks Animation's realization that the Puss character deserved more.
The Copyright Laws of the United States recognizes a “fair use” of copyrighted content.
Section 107 of the U.S. Copyright Act states: “Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 106 and 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright.”
