Before websites, PDFs, and social media, creating a professional newsletter or brochure was a challenge. In the mid-1980s, desktop publishing changed everything.

In this video, I install and explore Timeworks Publish It! Lite for DOS, a desktop publishing package that ran under the GEM graphical environment. Long before modern page layout software became commonplace, programs like Publish It! gave ordinary PC users the ability to create newsletters, flyers, brochures, advertisements, and more from their home computers.

We'll take a quick look at the software, the interface, and the technology that helped launch the desktop publishing revolution.

Hardware from my original Publish It! days:
• Epson Equity PC
• Hercules monochrome graphics
• Serial mouse
• Canon BJ-200 Bubble Jet printer

If you enjoy retro computing, DOS software, GEM, desktop publishing history, and classic IBM PC compatibles, you're in the right place.
