Companies must plan the IP addresses used on all their devices. First, the actual values must follow some convention that enables traffic to legally flow into the Internet and back. Additionally, the addresses must be grouped together per the rules of IP addressing, which makes IP routing work well. A company cannot just use any address block it wants; it cannot assign addresses randomly from whatever block it chooses to use. Instead, it must plan.
