On Friday we created these awesome Key Feeders for the Drill Boys at Port Lympne Hotel & Reserve, but how do they actually work?
A simple Yale lock is attached to the back wall of the feeder, that hangs against the enclosure fence.
Inside the feeder this latch holds a hinged food tray in place, which can be loaded with food in the morning while the primates are inside for cleaning.
Then at any point during the day a keeper can turn up on the public side and relesea the tray (or an educator or experience guest...).
In this case the food is a mix of pellet and whole peanuts. Most of the pellet falls through the mesh and wiffle balls, but most of the nuts get caught, meaning the primates have to work them through the obstacles proloning feeding!
So simple, but an awesome result!!
