Welcome to Module 3 of the PTZOptics Visual Reasoning AI Online Course.
In this module, we move beyond tracking and into real automation — building a control system that uses gesture recognition to control OBS (Open Broadcaster Software).
We’ll compare traditional computer vision and Vision Language Models (VLMs), test cloud vs local performance, and connect visual reasoning directly to a live production workflow using OBS WebSockets.
This course is paired with the Visual Reasoning AI book (available as a free download or paperback on Amazon) and includes access to the open-source Visual Reasoning Playground on GitHub, where every tool demonstrated is customizable and extensible.
🔍 In This Module, You’ll Learn:
• How to connect visual reasoning to a live production control system
• How to use gesture detection (thumbs up / thumbs down) to control OBS
• How OBS WebSockets enables HTTP-based automation
The performance differences between:
• MediaPipe (traditional computer vision)
• Moondream in the cloud
• Moondream running locally with an NVIDIA GPU
• How to apply guardrails like confidence thresholds and cooldown timers
• How to safely trigger real-world automation from AI detections
We demonstrate how AI can:
• Track faces using MediaPipe at ultra-low latency
• Track any object (like an orange cone) using a local VLM
• Compare latency between cloud and local AI workflows
• Switch OBS scenes using natural language gesture prompts
• Build production-ready automation with open-source tools
