⚜️ PSYCHOLOGY FOR HOMIES ⚜️
SOCIAL ANXIETY
What if the problem isn’t that you’re bad with people…
but that you’ve become trapped inside your own head?
Because somewhere along the way…
you stopped entering conversations.
And started entering simulations.
What should I say?
What if they judge me?
What if I sound stupid?
What if I embarrass myself?
What if they don’t like me?
What if I freeze?
What if I fail?
While everyone else was having a conversation…
you were trying to survive one.
And that’s exhausting.
Because social anxiety isn’t always a lack of confidence.
It’s often an excess of self-consciousness.
Your attention stops flowing outward…
and becomes trapped inward.
Every word gets analyzed.
Every facial expression gets interpreted.
Every silence becomes evidence.
Every interaction becomes a performance review.
Meanwhile the person you’re talking to is usually wondering:
“Do they like me?”
In this episode of Psychology for Homies, we explore why social anxiety develops, why it feels so convincing, and how genuine connection begins when we stop obsessing over ourselves.
In this video I break down:
⚜️ What social anxiety actually is
⚜️ Why the nervous system learns to fear social situations
⚜️ How bullying, rejection, criticism, and embarrassment leave emotional imprints
⚜️ Why overthinking creates awkwardness
⚜️ The hidden relationship between attention and anxiety
⚜️ Why confidence is usually built through exposure, not thinking
⚜️ How avoidance strengthens fear
⚜️ Why authenticity is more powerful than perfection
⚜️ The neuroscience of safety, belonging, and connection
⚜️ Practical ways to feel more relaxed around people
Because the goal isn’t becoming the most charismatic person in the room.
The goal is becoming present enough to actually be in the room.
Most socially anxious people are not focused on others.
They’re focused on themselves.
Their appearance.
Their voice.
Their body language.
Their performance.
Their mistakes.
And the mind becomes so loud…
that it drowns out the conversation.
Maybe the greatest social anxiety lie is:
“I need to feel confident before I talk to people.”
Because confidence is often the reward for participation.
Not the prerequisite.
You don’t think your way into social confidence.
You experience your way into it.
One conversation.
One interaction.
One awkward moment.
One smile.
One hello.
At a time.
Maybe people aren’t judging you nearly as much as you think.
Maybe they’re too busy worrying about themselves.
Maybe connection begins the moment you stop trying to be impressive…
and start being present.
