"We have to go through this together and find solace on the planet, and then, just like Gretta Thunberg has said: 'Action is the antidote to despair'. Find what you're passionate about, where you can make a contribution, and throw everything you have behind it, and then watch what happens.
There is an enlightenment and there is a revolution happening, and I think the kids are indicative of that, I think extinction rebellion is indicative of that, and these are two very strong movements that are around the world and growing daily and getting increasingly powerful. They don't get enough media but that does not mean that they're not happening. I think we're at this point in history where people get to choose what side of history they want to be on. Do you want to be on your feet and go forward doing the right thing, or not? And it's just that simple. I think that that level of protest is coming. And I think that it's happening, and again, just because the corporate media's not reporting on it doesn't mean it's not happening.
'I wanted to recognize there are these beautiful young people in your front row, and your book helped me because it has love all the way through it: love with a glacier, and love with a coral reef, and love with the people of your rock. I wanted to know - if you're here with us and here with these beautiful doctors, and these beautiful activists and these beautiful young people - what do you want them, especially these young people to know from you right now?'
I am committed to doing everything I can for the rest of my life to help you. That's why I'm doing this, and that's why I'm going to keep doing this, and that's why I'm going to look at whatever I'm going to do next to work towards those obligations, because you are the future generation. Distinguished Iraq War Journalist Dahr Jamail now turns his focus to the accelerating world wide climate disruption. He journeyed across the planet to see and meet the people who know first hand the ongoing devastation and what can be done. Alaska, Glacier National Park, Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, the Amazon rain forest He writes passionately about this in his book - The End of Ice: Bearing Witness and Finding Meaning in the Path of Climate Disruption. In this talk Dahr describes his love for mountaineering on Denali and how he became fully engaged. He notes it is the children who are taking the lead and we are obligated to help them.
