❓Question: Which version should I use: TG Putty Basic, Advance or Pro?
✔️Answer: Basic is acceptable if you’re on a budget. Advance offers the best balance of performance and price and closely matches Sony’s factory compound. Pro has the highest thermal conductivity and is ideal if you want the maximum temperature headroom.
❓Question: Do I have to replace the liquid metal on the PS5 APU?
✔️Answer: Not always. If the liquid metal still evenly covers the APU and coldplate, you can simply re-spread it. Replace it only if the coverage is patchy, oxidized or contaminated. Always degrease both surfaces and use a very thin, even layer.
❓Question: How do I know if I applied enough thermal putty?
✔️Answer: Aim to match or slightly exceed the original pad height. After tightening the shield, the putty should compress so there are no gaps, but not bulge massively from the edges. If in doubt, it’s safer to add a little more than too little.
❓Question: Should I deep clean the PS5 at the same time?
✔️Answer: Ideally yes. Dust in the power supply vents and heatsink fins will negate any thermal pad upgrade. Do a full fan, heatsink and PSU vent clean first, then replace the pads or apply putty.
