Following the events of Up Your Arsenal, Ratchet, Clank and Big Al have been given the job of running the Starship Phoenix. After the crew are informed that many heroes have disappeared, robot troops overrun the Phoenix, taking Ratchet, Clank, and Al captive.
They are transported to the Shadow Sector, a lawless region of space on the edge of the Solana Galaxy. Ratchet meets Gleeman Vox, the creator of DreadZone, a barbaric game show in which contestants are forced to kill each other for public entertainment. Ratchet is forced to compete in DreadZone, and is fitted with a DeadLock collar which will explode if he becomes uncooperative or boring. Collectively referred to as Team DarkStar, Ratchet and his combat bots, Merc and Green must fight for their lives while Clank serves as Ratchets Mission Engineer.

Boog (Chris Williams) is a 900-pound grizzly who is the star of the town Timberlines nature show. In a dream, Boog chases after a giant version of his teddy bear Dinkleman, but he is soon woken by Beth (Kari Wahlgren), who takes him to the town center for Boogs performance. But Beth finds that Shaw, a cruel hunter, has already hunted a buck. She goes into Sheriff Gordys police office to confront Shaw. The buck (Maddie Taylor) wakes up and introduces himself, his name being Elliot. Boog reluctantly frees him, and Shaw (Darryl Kurylo) vows revenge on Boog after Sheriff Gordy (Carlos Alazraqui) tells him hes been living in the woods too long. That night, Elliot decides to free Boog in return. He manages to lure him to the convenience store, where they finish all the chocolate bars there, but theyre discovered by the police and incapacitated with a tranquilizer gun by Beth and brought to the Timberline National Forest until the start of open season. There, Elliot claims that he knows how to get back to Timberline, prompting a road trip.

Bombastic has similar gameplay to its predecessor, Devil Dice. The players controls a family of small devils (Aqui) that must traverse a level seen in isometric perspective that contains several standard six-sided dice. Players can walk on the ground, moving dice by pushing them, or walk on top of the dice, which rolls them onto the next face as the character walks. There are various gameplay modes, which determine the level objective and how dice are cleared.
