The third single 💕
“Why Do I Do What I Do” is about cycles you can’t seem to break. The quiet, internal patterns that repeat even when you’re so excruciatingly aware of them.
I was inspired to write this song while flying up the California coast to Bend, Oregon in the summer of 2024. Watching the waves crash against the cliffs, noting how different each of these places will look over the coming years. The concept of erosion, and how things shift slowly over time until one day they’re unrecognizable. Relationships, identity, habits… the subtle distance that grows without you noticing until it’s all you can see.
There’s a tension in this song between movement and stasis. Between wanting change and feeling stuck inside yourself. That moment of waking up, recognizing the pattern, and still falling back into it anyway.
