The hit and run suspect accused of taking off from the scene of an accident with one of the victims still lodged in the car's windshield faced a judge Monday morning on several charges.
Christopher Swiridowsky, 30, of Providence was arraigned in Providence District Court on charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving injury, and of eluding police. Judge Michael A. Higgins set bail at $25,000, but also ordered Swiridowsky held as a probation violator in another case.
According to police, Swiridowsky hit three pedestrians Sunday around 1:35 a.m. The victims were stopped on the side of the road on Interstate 95 South in Providence to assess the damage caused by an earlier accident.
Two of the three pedestrians suffered major injuries, including Jose Flores, 24, from Central Falls. Police said Flores was impaled in Swiridowsky's windshield.
