I went to test out my early prototype symphonic hand cymbal (clash or crash cymbal) pairs in Cardiff. At the Hoddinott Hall, home of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, with the help and valued opinion of Chris Stock, their principal percussionist.
The feedback from Chris was very good, though I still can't play them properly myself ;-)
Since then, I've also taken cymbals to other orchestras in Amsterdam, Germany and Prague and received lots more useful feedback. It is interesting to see how tastes vary in different places and for different musics - not surprising really. All of this information will inform the next sets of orchestral cymbals I'll be making.
