Today I visited the second exhibition at Yanhuang Art Museum on bird-and-flower watercolor paintings. Bird-and-flower is a typical theme, featuring birds, domestic animals, flying insects and different kinds of plants. It's a popular genre since the 10th century in China, but it has never been the center piece at a museum.

Watercolor artists around the world face different challenges. Watercolor in China is associated with femininity, which is not the desired quality for many. In the west, watercolor has been considered as 'beginner', 'unfinished' and not durable.
