Program: Geometry in Groups

ORGANIZERS: Radhika Gupta (TIFR Mumbai, India) and Suraj Krishna M S (Technion-IIT, Israel)

DATE & TIME: 29 July 2024 to 09 August 2024

VENUE: Ramanujan Lecture Hall, ICTS

The area of geometric group theory (GGT) has seen explosive growth in recent times, thanks to a series of important breakthroughs and its connections to diverse areas like geometry, topology, dynamics, analysis, and probability.

This collaborative workshop has two aims: 1) to increase exposure to active areas in geometric group theory for mathematicians in India, and
2) strengthening the existing research network.

The first week consists of minicourses by eminent researchers known for their exposition, while the second week will follow a “research in groups” format with each group being led by a minicourse speaker.

Minicourse speakers:

Indira Chatterji (Université Côte d'Azur à Nice) - Property(T), median spaces and CAT(0) cubical complexes
Inhyeok Choi (KIAS) - Growth of (sub)groups with hyperbolicity
François Dahmani (Université Grenoble Alpes) & Nicholas Touikan (University of New Brunswick) - Automorphisms of free groups of small rank, and their outer conjugacy classes
Piotr Przytycki (McGill University) & Damian Osajda (University of Copenhagen) - Coxeter groups are biautomatic
Genevieve Walsh (Tufts University) - Examples of infinite groups, their ℓ2-homology and boundaries
Research talks:

Vaibhav Gadre (University of Glasgow)
Pritam Ghosh (Ashoka University)
Sourav Ghosh (Ashoka University)
Kuwari Mahanta (IIT Guwahati)
Biswajit Nag (Tata Institute of Fundamental Research)
Bratati Som (University of Buffalo)

ICTS is committed to building an environment that is inclusive, non-discriminatory, and welcoming of diverse individuals. We especially encourage the participation of women and other under-represented groups.
