How to Prove That 1 = 2
Let's begin our journey into the bizarre world of apparently correct, yet obviously absurd, mathematical proofs by convincing ourselves that 1 + 1 = 1. And therefore that 2 = 1. I know this sounds crazy, but if you follow the logic (and don't already know the trick), I think you'll find that the "proof" is pretty convincing.
Here's how it works:
Assume that we have two variables a and b, and that: a = b
Multiply both sides by a to get: a2 = ab
Subtract b2 from both sides to get: a2 - b2 = ab - b2
This is the tricky part: Factor the left side (using FOIL from algebra) to get (a + b)(a - b) and factor out b from the right side to get b(a - b). If you're not sure how FOIL or factoring works, don't worry—you can check that this all works by multiplying everything out to see that it matches. The end result is that our equation has become: (a + b)(a - b) = b(a - b)
Since (a - b) appears on both sides, we can cancel it to get: a + b = b
Since a = b (that's the assumption we started with), we can substitute b in for a to get: b + b = b
Combining the two terms on the left gives us: 2b = b
Since b appears on both sides, we can divide through by b to get: 2 = 1
Wait, what?! Everything we did there looked totally reasonable. How in the world did we end up proving that 2 = 1?

The General Electric GE90 is a family of high-bypass turbofan aircraft engines built by GE Aviation for the Boeing 777, with thrust ratings from 81,000 to 115,000 lbf (360 to 510 kN). It entered service with British Airways in November 1995. It is one of three options for the 777-200, -200ER, and -300 versions, and the exclusive engine of the -200LR, -300ER, and 777F. It is the most powerful and was the largest jet engine,[4] until its 6 in (15 cm) wider fan successor, the 105,000 lbf (470 kN) GE9X, powered the Boeing 777X first flight in January 2020.
The higher-thrust variants, GE90-110B1 and -115B, have a different architecture from that of the earlier GE90 versions. General Electric incorporated an advanced larger diameter fan made from composite materials which enhanced thrust at low flight speeds. However, GE also needed to increase core power to improve net thrust at high flight speeds. Consequently, GE elected to increase core size which they achieved by removing one stage from the rear of the HP compressor. An additional stage was added to the LP compressor, which more than compensated for the reduction in HP compressor pressure ratio, resulting in a net increase in core mass flow.
According to the Guinness Book of Records, at 127,900 lbf (569 kN), the engine holds the record for the highest thrust (although rated at 115,300 lbf (513 kN)). This thrust record was accomplished inadvertently as part of a one-hour, triple-red-line engine stress test. To accommodate the increase in torsional stresses, a new steel alloy, GE1014 was created and then machined to extreme tolerances. The new record was set during testing of a GE90-115B development engine at GE Aviations Peebles Test Operation, which is an outdoor test complex outside Peebles, Ohio. It eclipsed the engines previous Guinness world record of 122,965 lbf (546.98 kN).[24] On November 10, 2017, its successor, the GE9X, reached a higher record test thrust of 134,300 lbf (597 kN) in Peebles, Ohio.
