Prompt debt might be the most 2025 kind of technical debt. It’s what happens when AI writes your code… but you never build the mental model behind it.
Shaw Talebi calls it out clearly: LLMs can generate code, architecture, even some of the reasoning. But if you ship something you don’t understand, you’re borrowing against your future self. When things break, when features need to be added, when users show up, you’re stuck with a black box you can’t maintain.
For throwaway tools and single-use dashboards, that’s fine. But for real products, especially SaaS, you need to actually understand what’s happening under the hood. That means not outsourcing the thinking part. Use LLMs as collaborators, not as autopilots. Slow down just enough to form that mental model, then you’ll actually move faster long term with fewer surprises.
