The programming process can be completed in under 20 minutes for most vehicles provided you have 1 working key - it does not require a working keyless entry remote fob. Before programming, get the provided key cut at a locksmith, hardware store, dealership, or other location that can cut keys. The instruction manual provides step-by-step instructions. Note that on many vehicles the key chip to start the ignition/engine is programmed separately from the buttons that lock/unlock the doors.
