So it's that time of year again when when the leaves fall, the rains begin,.....and I get to torture college students with Star Wars. Seriously though, I have again been asked to return to USF to give a three part guest lecture on Star Wars for the "From Oz to Hogwarts: Wisdom Traditions in Fantasy Literature". The course is designed to take a look at popular works of fiction and identify the deeper themes and lessons imbedded within them.
Now...I am not a professor of myth, nor an official spokesperson for Lucasfilm...but being a Star Wars geek, I can give this talk in my sleep. My hope is not to lift Star Wars into some lofty intelectual realm, but to help those who may not have an appreciation for the movies, to see them as works of value beyond guys in crazy alien masks and running gun battles....and perhaps to create new fans. I have a blast doing it and the kids in the class have a good time too. Here is just a small peak...
