Professor Debargha Banerjee from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune delivered a talk on Ramanujan Congruences and Beyond as part of the Mathematical and Physical Sciences Divisional Research Seminar at the School of Arts and Sciences, Ahmedabad University.

Professor Banerjee introduces the idea of Hensel to define the local fields and how solutions of equations from finite fields can be lifted to fields of characteristic zero. He discusses the Ramanujan congruence and how these congruences lift modular forms from characteristic 691 to characteristic zero.

Professor Banerjee has a master’s degree from Indian Statistical Institute and a PhD from Tata Institute of Fundamental Research
