On 21 June 1991, Prince Charles, Prince of Wales, honoured British forces at the Gulf War Victory Parade in London, where 1,000 veterans marched through the city before he delivered a reflective address at a luncheon acknowledging the sacrifices made by British soldiers.
During his speech, the Prince of Wales said, “In many ways, our sympathies lay with the poor, abused Iraqi conscripts whose tragic fate lay in the hands of one unmentionable dictator.”
Princess Diana, Princess of Wales, attended alongside him at Guildhall, and although she did not give a speech, she met and spoke with veterans during the commemorations.
