Hello friends and fellow travelers of the stars. Today we are blasting into space to explore and take a deep dive into a nearly perfect game. An immersive sim made by Arkane Studios, published by Bethesda softworks and titled after a Human Head Studios game that was released in 2006.
Prey 2017 is both a truly original masterpiece and a love letter to the immersive sim games that came before it like System Shock and Bioshock. At its core it’s a first person action game with RPG elements but it is surrounded by so many other interesting systems and so much reactivity that it really feels like a game that lets you play your way and where your choices matter.
As well as having a killer plot with some great characters the game is crammed full of environmental and emergent storytelling that means each trip through the Talos one space station to battle the invasive Typhon aliens will have something unique about it. So join me as we dive deep into what makes this game so damn great.
