Addressing the harmful effects of violent crime and supporting victims is a priority for Police Scotland.
Police Scotland stood up a coordinated national approach to address violence affecting young people, named Operation Stardrop, in 2025 with the aim of preventing children from committing or becoming victims of violent crime. This followed on from several incidents involving under 18s which resulted in the deaths of three young people.
Key to this approach is working alongside partners, including the Scottish Government, local authorities, Scottish Violence Reduction Unit, Fearless (as youth service for independent charity Crimestoppers) and listening to young people and families impacted by violence.
