As we age, our muscles, strength, balance, and coordination naturally decline. These changes increase the risk of falls, which can lead to serious injuries. But the good news is, you can improve your balance with simple, safe exercises you can do at home.
Start by standing tall and holding onto a chair for support. Lift one leg back, bringing your heel toward your hip, and hold for a moment before lowering it. Switch legs and repeat. This movement trains single-leg balance, strengthens stabilizing muscles, and improves coordination.
As you get more comfortable, try taking your hands off the chair or closing your eyes to challenge your balance even further. These small, consistent movements can greatly reduce fall risk, improve confidence, and help maintain independence as you age.
