In this video we share our tips that you can use tp prepare your home for winter travels. Like many snow birds, we like to travel to warmer climates during the winter months. Before we leave we need to get our home ready for extended travel, These are the steps we take before we leave.
Preparing Your Home for Extended Travel:
1️⃣. Mail
USPS
✅ Have trusted neighbor collect mail from mail box
✅ Mail Hold: good for up to 30 days
✅ Mail forwarding (Temporarily change of address) to family member
Up to 6 months - Can be extended
Magazine and junk mail can not be forwarded
✅. Mail Scan (USPS)
Free service offered by USPS that will scan and email you images of your incoming mail.
It will also give you notice of incoming packages
✅. Third party mail service (Escapees)
Domicile and Residency options
Custom Mail Forwarding

Mail Scan & Virtual Mailbox

Set up Auto Bill Pay
Many banks offer this service
Utility's off auto pay to credit card or bank account

3️⃣. Couple week before departure
Review food content of kitchen ( Cabinets & Refrigerator)
What food will be used before departure
What food will be taken on trip
What food will be discarded
Repack un-used dry food in sealed containers
✅. All Rooms
Create a video/photo record of each room and its contents
4️⃣ Day of departure “To Do List”
Turn off city water supply
Drain faucets:
Kitchen
Bathroom
Shower
Outside
Laundry sink
✅. Add “RV” Antifreeze to drains
✅. Turn off Water Heater at breaker panel
✅. Turn down Thermostats in each room
✅. Turn off or unplug TV, Computer, Printer and other vampire electric
✅. Lock all windows & Doors
✅. Discard unused food and trash
✅Close all interior doors
