In this video, Michael Barbour explores use of screening and orientation supports and tools by different K-12 online schools and programs in the United States, Canada, and New Zealand. Michael transitions to the limited research into preparing K-12 students to have success online learning environment, and how all of the supports and tools should be understood through the lens of the Academic Communities of Engagement framework.

How important is it for students with different kinds of backgrounds and experiences to have orientation courses about what distance learning can be and about how to manage the digital tools used in the course? What contents can be included in that type of orientation courses? How can we offer support for the students if they need different types of help?
