On January 24, 2023, Patrick Clancy came home expecting to find his wife and three young children getting ready for dinner. Instead, he walked into a nightmare that would make headlines around the world and ignite one of the most controversial criminal cases in recent memory.

The facts of what happened that evening are not in dispute. The question is why it happened.

In Part One of my coverage of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts v. Lindsay Clancy, we break down the opening statements that introduced two completely different explanations for this tragedy. The prosecution argues Lindsay carefully planned the murders of her three children and knew exactly what she was doing. The defense says this case is about postpartum psychosis, an undiagnosed bipolar disorder, and a desperate mother whose months-long mental health crisis spiraled beyond anyone's understanding.

We'll also walk through the emotional testimony of Patrick Clancy, who took the stand and described the family they built together, Lindsay's escalating mental health struggles, and the unimaginable moments when he returned home that evening.

As always, I'll lay out the evidence, explain the legal arguments from both sides, and let you be the 13th Juror.
