Archaeologists discovered a papyrus that instructed the women on how to take this ancient pregnancy test, this papyrus dates from the New Kingdom era between 1500 and 1300 BCE.
Which means that the instructions for this ancient pregnancy test were already known at least 3500 years ago, which means that they were probably doing this for a longer period of time, but we know for a fact that it’s at the very least 3500 years old.
It was written in a Hieratic script, which was the ancient Egyptian’s cursive form of the hieroglyphic writings.
The basics of the pregnancy test in ancient times are actually super similar to the test we take today.
To put it in the simplest way possible; a woman takes a urine sample and then waits for a chemical reaction.
So what did the Papyrus instruct women to do to test if they were pregnant?
Well a woman would need two bags, one would be filled with barley and the other would be filled with the various wheats that were grown in Egypt at the time.
