If every effect has a cause, then every decision is the inevitable outcome of everything that came before it -- our genetics, upbringing, environment, experiences, neurobiology, and the countless variables beyond our awareness. In everyday life, we never choose our birth, parents, DNA, language, Astrology chart, Numerology or the events that shape our beliefs, yet those very factors become the foundation of every future decision we make.
Scripture presents a similar pattern, repeatedly describing events as unfolding according to a predetermined plan: Jesus is "delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God" (Acts 2:23); Herod, Pontius Pilate, the Gentiles, and Israel gathered together "to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose predestined to occur" (Acts 4:27–28); Judas' betrayal fulfilled what had already been written (Psalm 41:9; John 13:18; Acts 1:16); and believers are described as "predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will" (Ephesians 1:11). Viewed together, both observable chains of cause and effect and these biblical narratives point toward a reality in which history unfolds according to an overarching design rather than independent, uncaused choices.
