In part 2 of the levelling plate build we decorate the micrometer screw adjustment knobs and complete the plate. There are some moderately interesting mill setups for cutting the chamfers and tapping clamping holes in the top surface. As a reminder these plates are used on the surface plate to align surfaces or features of a part dead parallel to the surface plate as an aide for inspection. In particular for measuring flatness. The original Brown & Sharpe leveling plate is a single plate with no hinge like the Federal leveling plate. The general arrangement is configured as an approximate 45-90 triangle with a fixed pivot at the 90 degree corner, and plate-tilting micrometer screws at the 45 degree corners. The plate pivots about two lines at approximate right angles to each other, one of those lines connecting the fixed swivel pivot and one micrometer screw, the other line between the fixed pivot and the second micrometer screw.
