I haven’t played guitar for several years. I have never played it well. Only knew a few chords. I’m having to relearn everything. I picked up You Can Teach Yourself Flatpicking Guitar by Steve Kaufman at the local music store.
The book is frustrating. Only one page is showing chord fingerings. Everywhere else it just shows the name of the chord and assumes you know it. So I have to flip back to the other page often. Also, I’m unfamiliar with most of the songs.
But I know this song, the Wabash Cannonball. This video shows an early attempt. I’ve never played individual notes on guitar before so I’m learning something new. I think all educators need to learn something new on a regular basis so they can keep the perspective of a student fresh in their minds. We will see how this goes. Right now, it’s pretty obvious I have a long way to go. I’m hopeful I can improve.
