In this video I split the machine in half to fix broken motor mounts. You would also need to do this if you had to replace the brushes in the motor or replace the ball nut and other components of the screw drive. I also put in larger capacity Yuasa batteries I got from Amazon to replace the factory Sonnenschein batteries.

The model in this video used a A512/10s Sonnenschein battery. You probably won't find these on Amazon but the Yuasa brand is a good choice and the NP12-12 is the same physical size with higher capacity. I wouldn't buy super cheap batteries. Always verify dimensions.
