I'll talk about the various options I have for powering my video production trailer when I get on location for an event.

I should mention that using a 3-wire 240V cable has to be done very carefully. I always make sure that the neutral/ground cable is connected to the neutral bus in the breaker panel, and that it is sufficiently large to handle the amount of current that the trailer will draw. It also means that there is no dedicated safety ground. Some 240V receptacles will be wired with two hot and a ground with no neutral. Those should not be used. The 3-wire solution is not ideal, but sometimes we don't really have any other choice.
