Woodturners, furniture makers or other wood artists can use power relief carving and woodburning to enhance the visual impact of their work. In this class, students learn how to use a micro-motor rotary power carver for relief carving, wood burners for texture and detail, and acrylic paints for dry brushing to add color. Although working on a lathe or other woodworking machines is a plus, it is not a requirement in this class. On sample discs and blocks, Dixie demonstrates her relief carving techniques, from layout to bit selection to finishing detail. Students are encouraged to bring dry and ready projects to quickly advance their skills. Previous power carving or painting experience is not required. Students always show up eager to learn!
Dixie Biggs has been a full-time studio woodturner/artist since 1989 and her work has been included in many exhibitions around the country. She continues to share her techniques and knowledge by demonstrating and teaching at various woodturning clubs, woodturning symposiums, and craft schools.
