In today’s retreat talk, I want to set the stage for what God is doing on our retreat platform. Life has felt out of control and uncertain for the past few years. Fear, anxiety, and worry often come to find us as we read the news and view our social media feeds.
So how are we as followers of Jesus supposed to respond to the uncertainty around us?
I believe we have 2 options. We can sit by helpless or we can trust in Jesus. A mentor once told me, “Prayer is the most powerful tool available to man!” Wow, that is a mic-drop word right there. While prayer is so often misunderstood, it is our true place of power. Prayer gives us handles and an element of control in situations that seem to be helpless.
Your life doesn’t have to be completely falling apart to need prayer. God promises to be with us in the everyday.
As we talk through these topics, we look into the scriptures at Jairus and the woman with the issue of blood. How do these stories of desperation relate to the things that we’re dealing with today?
Jairus was desperate as his daughter was slowly dying.
The woman with the issue of blood had tried all of the doctors and remedies available for her issue.
"Don't worry about anything, pray about everything!"
Philippians 4:6-7
Then as you pray, God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand! I don't know about you, but I need some peace that will control the way I think and feel!
I want to tell you something that will bring you hope, God didn't stop answering prayers! God is not dead. The bible stories aren't meant to make us spectators but participants in the story of Jesus! Although we are surrounded by uncertainty, pain and struggle, we are not alone! We are not left helpless, He is with us!
