Ordinary, everyday fishing line has been used to produce artificial muscles with super human strength.
By twisting and coiling simple fishing line and applying heat, powerful artificial muscles are produced. The new muscles can lift one hundred times more weight and generate one hundred times higher mechanical power than human muscle.
This video shows the fishing line muscles (running vertically, twisted into coils) woven into a fabric and expanding and contracting in response to electrical stimuli.
The research is published Feb 21 2014 in Science journal.
