The genius of democracy is the spread of a sense of power or agency throughout the society. People are happier in a world they own a piece of, and in which they have a voice. But people at the top today--our politicians and elites--are hard at work grabbing all power and money for themselves. We see the result all through our society--in the obvious ways, but also the not so obvious. Power is a need, and when it's denied them, people are going to grab it wherever and however they can. Sometimes that manifests in dangerous and deadly ways. We have our politicians and our elites to thank for this. But they don't care. It's the rest of us who live with the consequences.
