When a caterpillar rearranges itself into a butterfly, it actually digests itself. Inside the chrysalis, 'imaginal cells' survive. It degenerates into a soup, and then regenerates, with these imaginal disks surviving the trauma of the transition. They end up forming the butterfly. Since we as a species and society are perpetually in transition, ask yourself: am I part of an imaginal disk, or the soup?

Look at the quagmire and use whatever you can from it as fuel. Act as if you were making something for children in the distant future: toys and gizmos and ideas to play with, in a nice safe environment conducive to their healthy development. It's not something we were given, but surely something we can start to try to build.
