Instead of asking “how can I help?” Just show up. 🍼💐🎀
One of my favorite ways to do that for postpartum mamas is to bring them a meal and a postpartum basket filled with all the goodies I wish someone had given me as a first time mom (or that I received and was SO grateful for).
Here are some of my favorite tips to assemble a postpartum care basket they will ACTUALLY use:
🍓 Go food-focused, especially for moms who already have all the cozy/self-care things.
🍪 Homemade treats are always such a hit.
☕️ You can’t go wrong with electrolytes or caffeine.
🍱 Show up with a meal, can be takeout, something homemade or frozen to make for later (try to ask what your friend would prefer before they give birth)
🫙 I typically reuse takeout containers or use single use plastic, so there’s nothing they need to return later.
🕯️Add in a self-care treat or two. I love candles, face masks and shower steamers especially (shower steamers over bath products because who has time for a bath with a newborn).
💐 I’ve yet to meet the new mom who doesn’t love flowers.
👋 If you’re not sure what they love, ask their husband for favorite snacks, drinks, or brands (or your friend before birth).
The most meaningful baskets aren’t the fanciest ones. They’re the ones that make your friend feel loved, cared for, and those first few weeks just a bit easier 🫶
