For most of us, the idea of possession conjures up images from gigantic Hollywood horrors, like Regan’s twisted body in The Exorcist or the unsettling Annabelle doll. We likely think of holy water and Christian priests - after all, only an exorcism can cleanse one of possession. At the base level, possession is often portrayed in the media as a difficult battle between good and evil. But what exactly does possession entail off-screen, in the real world? And where did the practice of exorcisms come from? In Possessed: When the Devil Takes Over, we hope to shed light on these questions and more as we examine the history of demonic possession and exorcisms.
