The Portland Hearts of Pine announced today that the club has officially secured rights to a women's United League Soccer team.

The new team will debut next May and expects to play six home matches at Fitzpatrick Stadium.

Hannah Sirois, Vice President of Fan Experience for Hearts of Pine, said it was always the organization's intention to bring a women's team to Maine.

"We're going to have these little girls and little boys who are going to be able to see these women athletes and say, I live in Lewiston-Auburn, and I could do that too. If they can do it, I can do it," Sirois said.

Sirois said the season will run from May to July.

"It is a little bit shorter, so we just need to make sure that people understand when they're supporting the team, they're not necessarily going to always be in market and have a full year of home games," Sirois said.

Sirois said the team name and branding have been informed by community input and will be announced in the next few months.

Deposits for season tickets will open up Thursday, June 11.
