Portable air conditioners can cool a room, but their hot exhaust hoses may radiate a surprising amount of heat right back into the space.
In this video, I test two possible ways to reduce that heat. First, I replaced the original portable AC exhaust hose with a heavier-duty flexible duct that appeared to have some insulating properties. Unfortunately, that upgrade produced little to no noticeable improvement.
I then moved on to a self-adhesive double-bubble reflective foil insulation wrap designed for AC hoses, HVAC ducts, exhaust hoses, attics, windows, and garages. After wrapping the duct, I measured the exterior surface again to see whether it reduced the heat radiating into the room.

The results shown are from my particular portable AC setup and testing conditions. Infrared thermometers may produce inaccurate readings on shiny reflective surfaces. For a more controlled comparison, place identical pieces of matte tape on each surface and measure those locations.
