Considering going to the Porkies? You should. There are spectacular views of Lake Superior, beautiful interior lakes, and multiple waterfalls all connected by the North Country Trail. We went twice and stayed at the same camp area (Presque Isle) to avoid noisy generators. The paths from there are within easy walking distance and the proximity to the water lessens the bug factor. We went in June and saw no ticks or black flies but the mosquitoes were active. Permethrine on clothing and Herbal Armor on ourselves did the trick. Some parts of the trail can be tricky in the rain and places are rocky so know your limits. My 10-year-old daughter had no issues but she is quite spunky. We broke up the drive by stopping in Mackinaw City both ways. I highly recommend this trip if you like hiking and taking your time exploring the rocky beach.
