General Questions to POR Staff
Ahoy mates! I've noticed that the Pirates Online Rewritten Staff is asked some questions pretty frequently, and that there are a bunch of different answers. I would like to clarify some frequent topics between the staff and the community!
- Why recreate Pirates Online Rewritten?
* I personally stopped playing POTCO long before it closed. I had lost my interest in it. I am motivated to succeed by the stories from the community and the staff members about the impact of POTCO on their childhoods and lives. I have a new found fire in wanting to play POTCO again with you all.
- Are you aware of Pirates Online Rewritten's Copyright Issues?
* Yes, we are all very well versed in copyright laws. We are aware of the fact that Disney owns every right to Pirates Online Rewritten. Disney could easily force us to shut down. Although, we are also aware of them many times that Disney has not taken action on projects similar to this unless that project were to give Disney a bad image or makes money off of Disney's work.
- What actions is Pirates Online Rewritten to prevent that action from taking place?
* We are removing several Disney characters in order to limit them taking action. These characters are actively used by and Disney may take action based solely on the reason that those characters are still being used today. We are also stating on every Pirates Online Rewritten related website and in the game itself that we do not own the content and Disney may shut us down at any time...

Pirates Online Rewritten is a ongoing non-profit project to recreate Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean Online (POTCO) as it was before the game’s closing on September 19th, 2013. The game will be a community ran server, ran and made by former POTCO players.
Pirates Online Rewritten is not associated in any official way with the Walt Disney Company, its subsidiary the Walt Disney Interactive Media Group, or any additional subsidiaries or affiliates.
The characters as well as "Pirates of the Caribbean" are TM and © (copyright) Walt Disney Company, Jerry Bruckheimer Films, and their related entities.
