Pope Leo XIV made history on Lake Albano, becoming the first pope to embark the boat of this procession of the image of the Madonna del Lago. After celebrating Mass at the Marian Shrine of the Madonna del Lago in Castel Gandolfo, the Pope accompanied the image of the Virgin to the shore before boarding a boat for the procession across the lake. “We set out as pilgrims with Mary, eager to bring Christ, our one hope of salvation, to everyone,” Pope Leo prayed. He later entrusted the Church and the peoples of the world to Mary, praying for forgiveness where hatred grows, hope where fear prevails, and peace among nations.
