For a quick explanation of what everyone’s stirred up about, a handful of Catholic cardinals who were concerned about the direction of the ongoing synod sent a dubia to Pope Francis asking for clarification about some of their concerns.
One of the questions in this particular dubia was related to the proposal to bless same sex relationships as such which some of the prominent delegates at this synod have expressed some sympathy for.
Pope Francis responded to the dubia, but the problem with his response (and I’m not going to go through it in detail because you’re going to read it for yourself) was that it could have been interpreted in a number of ways. Which is why you get people on all sides of the spectrum claiming he said the opposite of what the other side claims he said.
And naturally the secular media ran with the interpretation they wanted. But the truth is, a variety of interpretations of what he said are possible… and that’s a problem because the whole point of his role, is to bring clarity - to teach us and to uphold those teachings.
