For #MuseumWeek 2017, the Museum of Portable Sound has added a new museological sound object to its permanent collection: the sound of Pop Rocks® candy being eaten. This recording was collected using a pair of stereo contact microphones – microphones whose pickup, or piezo, inside it, picks up vibrations from objects they touch. Our test subject has eaten a portion of Pop Rocks® candy, placing the contact microphones on her cheeks for the duration of the popping, to capture a complete cycle of the Pop Rocks® experience.
