Physicist Bernard Carr talks about his interests in cosmology, psychical research and spirituality. Once a student of Stephen Hawking's, Carr has done pioneering work on primordial black holes, the multiverse and the fine-tuning problem -- explaining why nature's constants seem perfectly suited for life to evolve. But in a parallel track, Carr has also been researching the paranormal and using scientific techniques to investigate purported hauntings, seances and devising experiments to test for telepathy and astral projection.
In part 1 of his conversation with Zeeya Merali, Carr talks about working with Hawking, his early work both on black holes and paranormal investigations, and the notorious 1970s case of the Enfield Poltergeist, the best recorded (alleged) poltergeist case, in the world.
