Her area of focus encompasses gender studies, social movements, and the ways in which African feminist activists make claims on the state and organise politically. Simamkele Dlakavu is currently registered for a PhD in the Department of Political Science at the University of Stellenbosch: the title of her thesis is ‘Fighting Against Erasure: The One in Nine Campaign and Feminist Movement Building against Sexual Violence’.
