Detectives say a Wisconsin man, who they had been investigating for reportedly stalking a woman for over a decade, was living in a home out of a horror movie with its collection of chilling items, including serial killer memorabilia, human skulls, a mummy and a jar that was labeled as containing a piece of brain from serial killer John Wayne Gacy.
According to a criminal complaint shared by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office on Thursday, 47-year-old Benjamin Larson is accused of stalking the woman since 2013. The victim told police that she and Larson had gone out "a handful of times" and that Larson had shown concerning behavior at the time.
The victim said she stopped dating Larson after he allegedly called her, saying he was suicidal and had a gun to his head. She told authorities that their relationship had been "very intense" and that Larson had appeared to be obsessed with the serial killer Ed Gein, death and gore.
After the breakup, the woman moved to Canada, but said that did not stop Larson from finding her. He also sent her an email in 2015 to tell her that he had gotten "their symbol" and her initials tattooed on himself and that he still had mementos from their two-month-long relationship, including one of her earrings tangled with her hair and a voicemail. He also wrote, "My will to care about you is just too strong. I simply don't let go, and I don't forget."
Then at the end of 2025, the victim reportedly received a couple of handwritten cards from Larson, including one where he told her he would keep reaching out until he heard something, and another in which he says he was wandering around her former city of Madison, Wisconsin, and hoping to run into her, writing, "I'll keep my eyes open." He then goes on to name her husband and child in the card. Larson also allegedly reported the victim, who is a therapist, to therapy licensing boards in three states.
The victim reported Larson to police in July, and as part of the stalking case, investigators searched his home. In his basement, authorities found numerous serial killer memorabilia, including 10 binders called "Edward Gein Book," items from Gein's grave and home, bullets with signs indicating they were the same cartridge used by the Zodiac Killer, the alleged piece of Gacy's brain and vials with labels of poisons, including arsenic, strychnine, cyanide and ricin. There was also a mummy with a sign reading, "Princes Taheb 1600 BC," along with a set of skeletal remains in a glass casket, a human skull in a glass display case and additional skulls on shelves.
The basement also contained a padlocked bedroom, in which investigators found a "lifelike," anatomically correct silicone doll on the bed that was wearing a choker and a red wig. Above the bed, there was a painting of a naked woman that investigators said had the victim's likeness.
In that room, investigators found even more human skulls, as well as two bones "in the shape of a cross." The sheriff's office says an anthropologist's initial examination leads them to believe many of the remains are likely those of ancient Native Americans, but more testing is needed, per WDJT.
More disturbing, however, investigators say, are Larson's apparent journal entries in which he writes about "hunting" the victim, one time having driven around her block while dressed in all black. He also described holding a machete that he kept in his car and wrote in a 25-page portfolio about the victim that he is "furious" that she has a husband and child.
Larson is charged with felony stalking and was given a cash bond of $15,000, which he posted. He is due back in court on Sept. 11.
