Starting off from the last part, I head to West Province (Area 1) and make my way to Alfornada Cavern, which is in the South Province. With all of Miraidon’s abilities, it is pretty easy to traverse this area to find trainers and items. I eventually exit the cave and head to Alfornada (19:17) and head straight to the final Gym. I meet Nemona (19:40) and register for the Gym Test (19:54), which is to participate in some emotional spectrum practice with Dendra, who is an instructor at the academy. It’s a pretty easy test, but you also face some gym trainers. After completing the test, I face Tulip, the Psychic type Gym Leader. With her team being in the mid-40s, the battle isn’t too hard, especially with Skeledirge having a type advantage over them. With the eighth and final Gym Badge, all Pokémon will listen to me no matter what level they are, and I can finally take on the Champion Assessment. Nemona and Geeta congratulate me on getting all eight badges and tell me to do the assessment (32:39), so I explore a bit and stock up on items before flying over to the Pokémon League.
The Champion Assesment has three parts, the Interview, facing the Elite Four, and facing the Champion. The Interview is pretty easy once you have all eight badges, and you should try to answer the questions to the best of your ability. After completing it, we take on the Elite Four. First is Rika, who specializes with Ground Pokémon, who isn’t too bad. Second is Poppy, who specializes in Steel types, so she is a pushover for Skeledirge. After that battle, Larry is surprisingly revealed to be the third member. Before I battle him, I have Skeledirge forget and relearn Torch Song to restore its PP. Larry switches from Normal types to Flying types, so he isn’t much different. The final member is Hassel, who uses Dragon types. Due to the type disadvantage, I use X items to gain decent Special Defense and Speed before sweeping his team.
After being congratulated by the Elite Four, I head on up to the highest level of the building where I face Geeta. I do not use any X items against Espathra since its ability allows it to mimic any stat increases your Pokémon receives, so I just take it out with Shadow Ball. Once Avalugg is out, I am able to use X items and sweep her team. With this win, I am finally a Champion trainer, which makes Nemona happy since we can have a battle on equal grounds. I find out that I can no longer enter the Elite Four building, explore a bit of the area, then head down to Mesagoza to face Nemona at her full strength. This is a unique battle where your team doesn’t seem to gain experience. Her team is at a higher level than Geeta’s, but the team lineup is similar to previous encounters, so I use an X Defense to have Skeledirge tank her Lycanroc’s attacks before proceeding to sweep her team. After her defeat, the final storyline, Victory Road, is completed. We end up back in our room and Arven mentions (1:32:00) that he managed to recruit two allies and tells us to head to the Zero Gate, which will be covered in the next part.
